Brawny Paper Towels is a brand of paper towels owned by Georgia –Pacific. As with the ever-saturated toilet paper market, the paper towel market at times seems to boast more brands than customers. But even in this densely populated sphere, Brawny stands out. The packaging features an image of – what else?– a brawny man in a red plaid shirt, a rugged, manly image that’s a far cry from the puppies, kittens and ducklings that are by far the more common sight on perforated paper. (I think he looks quite cute, actually) But what else, really, about Brawny paper towels really sets them apart from other brands?
The word Brawny applies, by definition, to something or (more frequently) someone possessing impressive physical strength, and a rugged, stocky shape, such as that exhibited by the brand’s unusual mascot. So, how well does the brand live up to its name? Very well, according to the majority of experts. That’s right, there are experts on paper towel strength, who judge them not via regular bathroom visits but by subjecting them to tests designed to measure the following properties: absorbency, wet strength, scrubbing strength and softness.

In terms of performance in the scrubbing test, Brawny should be strong enough to scrub grease off your pan , while also being gentle enough to wipe your kid’s chocolate mousse-covered face. This toughness means that you’ll get more use out of each paper towel, which translates, for the frugal among us, into strong potential for long term saving.
Despite all these winning qualities, I find the best thing about Brawny to be its Pick-a-Size Feature. Brawny comes perforated into six inch squares, which allows you to easily tear off pieces in the exact size you need. This, obviously, will result in bigger savings for you since you don’t need to use up a big chunk of paper towels to clean up a small mess. And if you have a husband-size mess to attend to, well, you can simply roll out a bigger size for that. Pretty neat, no?
